It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of retired Scotia Fire Department Captain David Briggs. A respected leader and dedicated firefighter, Captain Briggs served the Scotia community and Schenectady County for over two decades, from July 1989 to April 2013.
Throughout his career, David Briggs exemplified integrity, leadership, and commitment. He advanced to the rank of Captain and served as both Union President and Vice President, advocating tirelessly for his fellow firefighters. Additionally, he contributed as a Schenectady County Fire Investigator, playing a vital role in fire safety and investigation efforts across the region.
One of Captain Briggs’ most enduring legacies is his instrumental role in establishing the Scotia Fire Department Water Rescue Program. His innovative approach and dedication helped build a lifesaving capability that continues to protect residents and responders during water emergencies today. His leadership in this initiative highlights his forward-thinking vision and unwavering dedication to public safety.
Beyond his professional achievements, David Briggs was a mentor, a steady presence, and a trusted friend to many within the fire service and community. His selfless service and dedication inspired those around him and set a high standard for others to follow.
